Best 3D HDTV Films to Watch

10) Sanctum 3D

This 3-D action-thriller from executive producer James Cameron (Avatar) is an exciting 3D movie, inspired by true events and set in a labyrinth cave system in Papua New Guinea  - one of the most breathtaking and dangerous places on Earth. The plot is based on a team of divers are exploring the South Pacific's uncharted Esa-ala Caves. But when a freak storm hits and their exit is blocked, they're forced to keep heading down, in the hope of escape.

There are a few great 3D scenes that stand out in this movie, and is definitely worth a watch.

9) The Green Hornet 3D (from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment)

A great movie, even if you haven't watched the old TV series. The Green Hornet is a high octane action packed movie with great 3D action and equally amazing stunts - this movie delivers on all levels. Director Michel Gondry does a magnificent job with the three dimensionalised martial arts sequences.

The Green Hornet was not originally intended nor shot for 3D movie presentation.  That means all the upconversion was done in post-production. Nevertheless, this movie does not disappoint!

If you are deciding between the 3D combo-pack or just the Blu-ray, for the £7 difference, I would definitely recommend the 3D version.

8)  A Christmas Carol (Walt Disney Home Entertainment)

Miser Ebenezer Scrooge is awakened on Christmas Eve by spirits who reveal to him his own miserable existence, what opportunities he wasted in his youth, his current cruelties, and the dire fate that awaits him if he does not change his ways. Scrooge is faced with his own story of growing bitterness and meanness, and must decide what his own future will hold: death or redemption.

Overall, 'A Christmas Carol' is a dependable Christmas movie and a great film, one that families should defintely sit down and enjoy watching together this Christmas holiday season. Jim Carrey as usual is a credit to the film.

7) Drive Angry 3D

The 3D aspects of this movie are well done with bullets and objects flying out of the screen. Some uber cool 3D effects but you can't take this movie too seriously. It's cheesy to say the least but for the guys, full of fast cars, hot babes, flames and loud bangs.

6) The Three Musketeers 3D

Based on the legendary novel by Alexander Dumas, ‘The Three Musketeers’ is the latest screen adaptation of the classic tale of loyalty and honour.

In the opulent and turbulent France of the 1700s, D’Artagnan (Logan Lerman) joins forces with three rogue Musketeers (Matthew MacFadyen, Luke Evans and Ray Stevenson) to stop the evil Richlieu, clash swords with nemesis Buckingham and avoid becoming snared by the beguiling and treacherous Milady.

‘The Three Musketeers’ makes every swash of the buckle made even more thrilling in stunning 3D.

5) Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides 3D Movie

On Stranger Tides, the fourth ‘Pirates’ movie, is with us in 3D.  While you can see ‘The Pirates of the Caribbean on Stranger Tides’ in 2d, it’s recommended that despite what critics say, you experience it in its full 3D glory. The 3D version is a bit dark and muddy, but for what it lacks in clarity, it makes up for in excitement.

There are those who insist the movie’s so predictable, it makes no difference if you’ve got your 3D glasses propped on your nose or tucked inside your empty soda cup. The truth is, however, that Pirates of the Caribbean on Stranger Tides delivers everything you need from a blockbuster. The extra added digital three dimensional element is a definite bonus.

4) Toy Story 3 in 3D (Walt Disney Home Entertainment)

Toy Story 3, which sees the welcome return of Woody (voiced by Tom Hanks) and Buzz (voiced by Tim Allen) is a joy to watch.

Pixar's animation skills have improved massively since Toy Story 2, and the 3D only enhances the rich texture of Lotso's fur or Ken's flashy clothes; the Toy Story movies have always thrilled us by giving us a new perspective on our own world, and the 3D adds to that immersion in all the little details only Woody or Rex would see. The movie is heavy on action sequences and executes each flawlessly, providing the sense of space and high stakes that few live-action films ever accomplish. A stunning movie and a joy to watch the Toy Story characters once again.

3) Transformers 3D: Dark of the Moon

The  latest robo-fantasy and marvel of a 3D spectacle with well executed digital effects and mindblowing visuals aswell as a decent plot. If you're a fan of the first two films, then this one will no doubt fulfill the void and appetite for the Transformer movie series. But what are the 3D effects really like? To put it simply, very, very good, so if you're a 3D junky and love transformers, this one is a must at our number 5 spot.

2) Avatar 3D on Bluray DVD

This movie in 2D is awesome, never mind Avatar in 3D. This is a magnificent live action film with a new generation of special effects and delivers a fully immersive cinematic experience of a new kind. The new 3D technology Cameron’s created which gives a more realistic sensation of depth perception (three focal planes from close, mid and distant horizon) are clearly the beginning of a revolution in the way films will be made from now.

The 3D seems to work best when the action and movement is minimal or when the shot is locked off allowing you to really study it at your leisure. It also works well in the mid ranges of the film’s focal plane, where the action or focus was from a few feet to twenty or thirty feet beyond: so corridors, rooms, the forest floor, inside a spacecraft seemed much more real. This movie delivers in every way. A movie you can watch over and over again and not get bored.

1) TRON: Legacy 3D Blu-ray (Walt Disney Home Entertainment)

This belated sequel to 1982's special effects groundbreaker is a 3D movie making truimph. Shot using the James Cameron Fusion camera system, it's both visually daring and never fails to astonish from start to end. If you're looking to grand stand your new 3D TV screen, TRON: Legacy provides the ultimate 3D experience.

tron 3d movie

Tron, the favourite sci fi adventure from previous years created this amazing 3D sequel and was the most popular movie for kids and adults. Released in 3D Blu Ray format in 2011, it is a joy to watch on your HD 3D TV set.

We think the movie looks even better on a 3D TV than it did in the cinema. This is because it plays a good deal brighter, with the benefit that you can more easily appreciate the characters with the amazing CG effects, especially with CLU  - the younger Jeff Bridges.
